By: Zach Chisholm – CC BY 2.0 We recently received this question from Ashley: My wife and I are currently in the middle of adopting! I keep on looking for adoption books to collect and share with our future wee ones, but all of the adoption kid's books I find always have a mommy and daddy on them. Where oh where can I find the unicorns that are two-mom adoption books? I found a two books that are close, but they're both about two dads. The books are pictured below: Daddy, Papa, and Me. How My Family Came to Be: Daddy, Papa and Me. Surely this isn't all the wide world of children's lit has to offer — where can one find kid's books about LGBT adoptive families? Yay!! Do a Search for LGBT Children's Books. I hope you find what you are looking for. 0 agree The Family Book by Todd Parr is all about different types of families and shows 2 mommies and adoption in its scenarios. 6 agree I was just going to suggest Todd Parr. My 10-year-old still won't give up her battered copy of It's Okay to Be Different, which includes being adopted and having two moms or two dads with other "different" characteristics like enjoying eating macaroni and cheese in the bathtub. Even though it's not really about families or adoption or LGBT stuff, it affirms those things by celebrating rocking out to the beat of your own drum. 0 agree I know this isn't exactly what you're looking for, but Horton Hatches the Egg is probably my favorite adoption book ever. And it's about a different kind of family. Perhaps good for the younger set? 2 agree Have I got a resource for you!! http://www.familyequality.org/get_informed/booknook/ 1 agrees This one is about a two-mom family, but it doesn't mention adoption specifically. My toddler loves it!! Mommy, Mama, and Me 0 agree We Belong Together by Todd Parr shows all different adoptive families – 2 mums, 2 dads, single parents are all included. 0 agree And Tango Makes Three by Justin Richardson is the perfect book about LGBTQIA adoption. It speaks to the natural beauty of love and the family it can build. 4 agree Was just going to suggest this one! I just discovered it at a local bookstore the other day, and thought it was pretty awesome. 0 agree Both already mentioned, but just to second them… "Tango Makes Three" and "The Family Book" by Todd Parr. My 2 year old LOVES these books and has no idea that my hidden agenda is to teach him univerasal love, acceptance, and tolerance…. muahahaha! 0 agree This book is not solely about adoption, but it's a really inclusive book about where babies come from and the families that wait for them. I love this book and plan to show it to my wife and my future children. What Makes a Baby by Cory Silverberg 0 agree I found this book called A Tale of Two Mommies 0 agree You might want to check out Books for Kids in Gay Families, which is just a blog that catalogues children's books with LGBTQ characters and themes. It has summaries, ISBNs, and searchable tags to make it easier to find the books with the type of content you're looking for! 0 agree Comments are closed.
